Thaksin Guilty Verdict

Thaksin Shinawatra Thaksin Guilty Verdict

Thaksin Shinawatra was today(Tuesday) given a two year prison sentence by Thailand’s Supreme Court Panel. The Supreme Court voted 5-4 against Mr Shinawatra in the Ratchadaphiesek Land case. Khunying Potjaman the wife of the former Prime Minister was found not guilty of any corruption in the business estate land deal. Thaksin was found guilty of involvement in the discounted sale of 33 rai of prime land to his wife and as Prime Minister at the time violating the Article of Constitution on conflict of interest.

Shinawatra, currently in exile with his wife in London, is reported as saying the verdict did not surprise him. The Supreme Court have issued a warrant for his arrest and it would seem highly unlikely Thaksin will be returning to Thailand in the near future.
