More Than a Woman

A hoax bomb call, a drag queen artist and a big business hit with lost revenue.You could mistakenly think you are about to read an article about a rebuked ladyboy, trying to cause mayhem to an entertainments giant and bring the surrounding city district to a standstill. Mambo Cabaret Show in Bangkok or the gay dance clubs of New York…..wrong on both counts.

Big theatre success can come with very little talent saddled to a memorable catchy name. Right name, good theme, correct location, where the margin between success and failure are thinner than the stilletto heels and thongs worn. Lady Bunny, Lily Savage and the 1930′s Paris favourite Barbette may never have made it as plain Jo Brown. The glamorous drag queen pictured at the top has certainly got a lot more ” oh la la, ”  in her vanity box than a drag queen artist that I discovered in a news story this week. So if the location is not New York or Bangkok, then where exactly is my story heading.

Joel Broad a 19 year old man from Banbury in Oxfordshire, England, recently appeared before Swindon Crown Court. Mr Broad pleaded guilty to a charge of making a hoax bomb call to W.H. Smith’s warehouse on September 1st 2008. The enforced police evacuation of the building by hundreds of workers is estimated to have cost W.H. Smith around £50,000 (2.5 milion baht). The closure of a major road near the warehouse brought Swindon’s roads to a halt. After three hours of impersonating canine influenza victims, police sniffer dogs eventually convinced the men in blue that the warehouse was safe.

Sentencing was adjourned so psychiatric reports could be attained and Mr Broad was granted bail until he reappears before the courts on March 6th. Prior to the proceedings the magistrates were informed that Mr Broad had recently lost his employment at the Pipers Arms Public House in Swindon.

Mr Broad is a drag queen artist and has performed at many venues in the south of England, including until recently a regular spot at the Pipers Arms. Part of his bail terms are that he can only enter Swindon on prearranged appointments and for any work commitments. At a minimum fee of £250 (12,500 Baht) plus travel expenses, his credit may have run out and his mobile phone lost it’s tune. If success is sometimes dependant on a little talent and a “chosen name”…. Beyond The Mango Juice proudly presents a drag queen act that might go down a bomb at your place……Tammy Tampax…… Let us hope the act is better than the quality of the poster….and the name.

If Mr Broad is invited to take an extended break in one of her Majesty’s luxury hotels, he would well be advised to leave his make up box in the police van, and his full range of underwear in a freshly dug hole. Tammy’s website states.

The sound of Amy Winehouse’s “Love is a Losing Game” booming out from a prison shower room could severely reduce the governers water bill. When the Tammy Wynette songs “Stand by your Man” and “Solid as a Rock” come booming back, Tammy may be grateful of the extra protection his Y fronts offer.
