If words were food then politics would be off my shopping list and a swing to the right would be a turn of trolley speed past the political vegetable produce and a sharp right into the nearest aisle.
However one of Thursday’s headlines in my sidebar news feed caught my eye and got a deft left click from my mouse. Thai PM admits boat people pushed out to sea was an admittance from Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva that Thailand was indeed giving Myanmar’s Rohingya boat people free swimming lessons and that kind of surprised me.
I was not in anyway surprised by the Thai authorities or whoever gave orders resulting in the deplorable handling of the boat people, but by their actual admitting of the incident. Perhaps a new government broom is sweeping clean, only time will tell.
That’s about as far as I want to go on this delicate matter, this site not being of a political nature I will leave it to other expert commentators and the politicians. On a lighter note having not seen any of the TV reports on Abhisit Vejjajiva’s statement, I couldn’t help thinking about an old BBC TV drama series back in the 70′s and 80′s starring James Bolam. Any idea.
With Abhisit Vejjajiva’s Newcastle roots, I wondered if the prime ministers PR team had the foresight to include some soft background music from the BBC classic When the Boat Comes In. The title song was Dance Ti Thy Daddy and here’s a sample of the lyrics.
“Thou shalt have a fish and thou shalt have a fin
Thou shalt have a codlin when the boat comes in
Thou shalt have haddock baked in a pan
Dance to your Daddy, my little man.”
Even bigger news for me this week came in the form of a padded overseas envelope delivered by the postman. Inside was a disc of photographs taken with Wonderful Wi’s camera during our Christmas holiday.
There were also some more recent photos of our new puppy dog Cola. It would only seem fair that I should also dedicate a song to Cola. Below are some of the lyrics but can you guess the title of the song.
“There’s a fog along the horizon,
A strange glow in the sky.
And nobody seems to know where you go.
And what does it mean?
Oh, is it a dream?”
How about you, what’s your choice of song for the two participants in today’s post.

Mike’s last blog post..A Tale of Two Cities.
Mike – I have emailed Pete twice but have had no reply, that’s unusual as he’s normally quick in response, I just hope he’s okay. Hopefully he’s busy on some new project and taking time away from the net. I am sure he will surface again, I’ve been missing his wonderful blogs.
The Likely Lads, one of my all time favourites. Classic comedy at it’s best.
WELL ,you guys from the IK have me there as I have never heard of ,(in the USA) either of the songs or the tv series, but I would have to say that my song would be. Row ,Row, Your Boat gently down the stream , merry ,merry, merry , life is but a dream. And my tv show my favorite of all time is Gilligans Island. It was sad to see the folks put out to sea, and I know that in the USA folks from Hattiti and Cuba or treated the same way . thank God we came by plane and not boat.
